The TX Studio opens in Oak Cliff’s historic Tyler Station Building on March 1.
Think Airbnb for photographers. That’s the concept behind The TX Studio, a natural-light photography studio opening in Oak Cliff’s historic Tyler Station Building on March 1.
The creation of husband-and-wife duo Doug and Kelsi Klembara, and Doug’s younger brother, Grant Klembara, the 2,100-square-foot-space features two rentable studios — each with private access, a supply of props and equipment, and of course, ice-cold Topo Chico.
With its picture-perfect natural light, loading dock, and plentiful parking, the studio checks all the boxes. But perhaps best of all is the company it keeps. A creative hub in the making, the historic factory also houses Wax Space, a shared workplace; Stash Design; and Oak Cliff Brewery, opening this spring.
“We love that the spirit here is collaborative,” says Kelsi. “Everyone is willing to help out everyone else.”
Designed to be inclusive of all area creatives, even those just getting started, pricing begins at $99 per two-hour session. Freelancers themselves — a photographer and photographer/writer, respectively — Doug and Kelsi are sensitive to the financial challenges independent contractors can face.
“Our goal is to give the people of Dallas a place to create,” says Doug. “We want to equip creatives with a beautiful and thoughtful space that’s accessible and easy to use.”
Connected by glass doors, the two studios easily double as one, creating an ideal location for workshops and galleries. This spring, commercial and editorial photographer Max Kütz will lead an educational workshop on lighting subjects — one of many events coming down the pipeline, says Doug.
“We want to pour time, sweat, and heart into something we can be proud of,” says Doug. “We really want The TX Studio to be a place a diverse group of people can utilize, and even find community in.”
